A jewelry click costs $4.44. Here is what a Fairhaven jeweler should buy before spending one

The whole digital ads stack for an independent jeweler, in the order you should build it, with a sourced price on every line — and the two layers that cost nothing at all.

A jeweler is one of the last trades where people still hand you something irreplaceable and walk away. A grandmother's ring that needs sizing before a wedding in three weeks. A watch that stopped the year someone died. If you run a bench in Fairhaven, the thing you actually sell is being the person who gets trusted with that.

Which makes the advertising question awkward, because trust is the slowest thing there is and ad platforms bill by the day.

So here is the field guide. Every layer of an independent jeweler's digital advertising stack, in the order you should build it, with a real sourced price on each line. Where a number could not be verified, it says so instead of guessing.

Start with the number that governs the whole budget.

$4.44
Average Google Ads CPC, Apparel / Fashion & Jewelry
All-industry average is $5.42
$97.51
Average cost per lead, same category
4.50%
Average conversion rate on those clicks

Those are LocalIQ's 2026 search advertising benchmarks, produced with WordStream. Jewelry is cheaper per click than the all-industry average, which sounds like good news until you do the second piece of arithmetic: at a 4.50% conversion rate it takes roughly 22 clicks to produce one enquiry. Twenty-two clicks at $4.44 is about $98 before anyone has walked through your door, and a fair share of those enquiries are people pricing a battery change.

That is the real cost of a lead. Everything below is about not paying it twice.

Layer 0 — the free layers, which most jewelers have not finished#

Two of the most valuable placements Google offers a retailer cost nothing, and both are routinely left half-built.

The first is your Google Business Profile. Google's own page states it plainly: "Yes, creating a Business Profile and listing your business on Google is free." No caveats, no tier.

The second is less well known. If you put your inventory into Google Merchant Center, your products can appear across Google Search, Images, Maps and the Shopping tab without any ad spend at all.

Free listings are a great way to generate traffic to your online store and promote your business without paying for ads.

Read that as a purchasing decision, not a marketing tip. Google will show a Fairhaven jeweler's actual rings, with actual prices, to people actively searching, for zero dollars. Nobody buys the paid version of a shelf they have not yet stocked for free.

Cost: $0. Time: an afternoon for the profile, a day or two for a first product feed.

Layer 1 — the page the ad lands on#

This is where most local ad money quietly dies, and it is the layer I can speak to with measurements rather than opinion.

In July I ran the website audit across the twelve jewelers Google Places returns for Fall River — the nearest measured jewelry sample to Fairhaven that exists. Ten had a live website. Two had none at all. Of the ten live sites, eight returned a usable largest-contentful-paint measurement.

MeasureJewelers, Fall River MA (measured 2026-07-15)Google's threshold
Median LCP (mobile)18.7s2.5s good, 4.0s poor
Worst LCP measured22.8s
Median Lighthouse Performance5290+ is good
Sites with no structured data9 of 10
Sites with no tappable phone number6 of 10
Businesses with no website at all2 of 12

One honest caveat, because it matters: only one of those eight LCP readings came from Google's real-world field data. The other seven are lab measurements on a throttled mobile connection. Lab numbers run pessimistic. Treat 18.7s as "this sample is slow," not as a stopwatch reading of what every customer experiences.

Even discounted, it is grim. Call the slowest one Site B. Its LCP measured 22.8 seconds. Send a $4.44 click to a page like that and you have not bought a visit, you have bought a bounce with a receipt attached.

Meanwhile the same twelve businesses hold 2,286 Google reviews at a 4.92 weighted average. The reputation is already earned. It is the delivery that is broken.

What a landing page costs. GoDaddy's published Website Builder pricing, on annual billing, is $9.99/mo Basic, $14.99/mo Premium and $20.99/mo Commerce. I tried to verify Squarespace's current tiers directly and could not — their pricing page renders its figures in the browser, and the fetched page contained no dollar amounts. So I am not quoting a Squarespace price here. Not measured.

Layer 2 — Google Search ads#

Only now does paid search make sense. There is no platform fee and no minimum spend; you set a daily budget and Google spends against it.

A workable starting shape for a one-bench shop: $20/day, one campaign, tight exact-match keywords around the jobs that actually pay — ring sizing, jewelry repair near me, engagement rings Fairhaven, watch battery replacement. At $600/month and $4.44 a click that is roughly 135 clicks, and at the category's 4.50% conversion rate, about six enquiries. Six. That is the honest expectation, and it is why the free layers come first.

Geographic targeting is your cheapest lever. Fairhaven, Mattapoisett, Acushnet, New Bedford across the bridge. Not "Massachusetts."

Cost: $600/mo at $20/day. No platform fee.

Layer 3 — Meta#

Facebook and Instagram do something Google cannot: they show the work. A time-lapse of a prong rebuild outperforms any text ad you will ever write, and the clicks are cheap.

WordStream's Facebook advertising benchmarks, last updated September 2025, put Apparel / Fashion & Jewelry at a $0.86 average CPC on traffic campaigns with a 1.29% CTR. Roughly a fifth of the Google click price — for colder, less-intent traffic. Different job, different expectations.

On minimum spend: the commonly repeated figures are $1/day for impression and click campaigns and $5/day for conversion-optimised ones. I could not confirm those on Meta's own help pages — every fetch of Meta's business help centre returned an empty, script-rendered shell. So I will not state them as fact. Not verified.

Cost: $10/day is a reasonable test, about $300/mo.

Layer 4 — knowing which one worked#

Skip this and every number above becomes a story you tell yourself.

For a jeweler, the conversion is almost always a phone call, and phone calls are invisible to ad platforms by default. CallRail's published pricing lists Lead Tracking at $50/mo on annual billing, plus usage — extra local numbers at $3 each, extra local minutes at $0.06. One tracked number on the ads, your real number everywhere else, and within a month you know which layer earns.

4CallRail Lead Tracking$50Yes
Fixed monthly$64.99
Total with ad spend$964.99

If that total makes you flinch, good. Build layers 0 and 1 first, run them for sixty days, and see what the free placements return before you buy a single click. Plenty of shops never need layers 2 and 3 at all.

The fix you can do this afternoon, free#

Open your website on your phone. Try to call yourself by tapping the phone number.

Six of the ten jewelers I measured had no tappable phone number — the digits sat there as plain text. On a phone, that is a customer who has to memorise ten digits, leave your site, and open the dialler. Most do not bother.

The fix is one line of HTML. Wrap the number in a link: <a href="tel:5085551234">508-555-1234</a>. Ten minutes in most site builders, zero dollars, and it repairs the single most common leak between an ad click and a ringing phone. Do that before you spend anything on Layer 2.

If you want the same measurement run done on your own site — real LCP, real structured data check, real mobile audit, no sales pitch attached — that is a phone call and about twenty minutes.
