What a Providence pet groomer's digital presence actually costs in 2026: every line item

Real, verified 2026 prices for a Providence RI grooming salon — booking software, domain, email, reviews, SMS. The lean stack is $77 a year. The typical stack is $2,598. Here is where the difference goes.

If you own a grooming salon and you have ever tried to find out what the software actually costs, you already know how this goes. You land on a pricing page. There is a headline that says pricing built around outcomes, not seat counts. There is a form. The form wants your mobile number before it will tell you a price.

So here are the numbers, printed.

Every vendor price below was checked on that vendor's own live pricing page on August 9, 2026. Where a number came from somewhere else — a state fee schedule, a registry filing, our own field measurements, our own arithmetic — we say so on the line. Where a vendor refuses to publish a price, we say so too; that refusal is itself one of the findings. Where we could not verify a number, we write not verified rather than guessing. US pricing throughout.

This one is for the grooming salons in Providence. The ones with a hand-lettered board out front, a client list that came entirely from word of mouth, and a phone that rings while both hands are wet.

One owner, one groomer, one location. Every line verified on the vendor's page.

Total: about $6.42 a month. $77.08 a year.

That Twilio line is the only one on the table we built rather than read off a page, so here is the build: $2.00 a month for a Sole Proprietor A2P 10DLC campaign, plus 200 messages at roughly 1.25¢ each ($0.0083 base plus a carrier fee of $0.0035 to $0.005) — call it $2.50. Total $4.50. Both the campaign fee and the per-message rate are published by Twilio: SMS rates and A2P 10DLC fees. Send more texts and this line grows.

There is also a one-time $19.50 to get registered for business texting at all — a $4.50 Sole Proprietor brand registration plus a $15 campaign vetting fee, both on that same Twilio fees page. And card processing at Square's 2.6% + 15¢ when the card is present.

On a $75 full groom, Square's free plan takes $2.10.

Neither of these is a trick. The second stack is genuinely better software. The real question is whether a two-groomer shop in Providence is getting $2,521 a year of value out of the difference. In my experience most of them are getting a meaningful chunk of it and quietly carrying the rest, because the renewal is silent, the cancel button is buried, and nobody ever sits down to re-read the invoice.

Here is the easiest place to start reading it. NiceJob is $900 a year — 35% of that $2,598.68 bill. Drop it and you are at $1,698.68 a year. I will show you a free way to do most of its job further down.

Who prints a price, and who makes you ask#

This is the part nobody writes down, so here it is as a table.

VendorEntry price for a small salonPrints its prices?

Pawfinity$55/mo billed annually, unlimited staff loginsYes, in full

Gingr$109/mo Spa, $100/mo annualPlans yes, SMS add-ons no
PetExecNot verifiedNo — tiers are images with no text
Booker"Starting at $139"No — every tier says "Let's talk"
BirdeyeNot verifiedNo — wants your mobile number first
PodiumNot verifiedNo — industry picker, then a quote form

Three things worth naming.

Vagaro's $23.99 is a promotion, not a list price. Vagaro's own support page calls it "Only for a limited time," and the pricing page shows $30.00 struck through above it. Budget for $30, and for $10 a month per extra employee calendar after the first.

PetExec's prices are pictures. When we checked its purchase page on the morning of August 9, every tier was a .webp image with no text underneath — which makes the prices invisible to a screen reader, to Google, and to anyone trying to compare before they call. By the afternoon that page returned a 404 entirely, so treat this one as a moving target. PetExec is now part of the Gingr family, and the banner on every page says so.

Do not trust the third-party price roundups. Chasing these numbers, I found three mutually contradictory figures for a Cloudflare domain, two wrong Canva Pro prices, and a Grade.us price ladder that does not exist on Grade.us. Every vendor price in this article came from that vendor's own live page — and several of those pages only render their prices inside a browser, which is exactly how the wrong numbers get copied and spread. Where a figure came from somewhere else, it says so on the line.

The quote that explains the whole spread#

And just because someone offers SEO services for $300 a month, it doesn't mean they're a steal. It usually means you're getting fake traffic, shady backlinks, or just nothing of value at all.
Joy Hawkins Owner, Sterling Sky Source

In that same October 2025 post, Hawkins publishes something almost nobody in this industry does: her agency's own software bill. Sterling Sky spends around $93,000 a year on tools, itemised down to the Asana and Mailchimp line. She writes that it is "not even high compared to some people I've talked to."

That is the honest shape of this market. There is a real floor of cost under good work, and there is a large middle where you are paying for a logo on a dashboard. The skill is telling them apart, and the only way to do that is to see the invoice — which is why so few people show you one.

Two costs the software pages will never mention#

The second one is the text messages.

A single US text sent through Twilio costs $0.0083 plus a carrier fee of $0.0035 to $0.005 — call it 1.2 to 1.3 cents all in, both figures from Twilio's US SMS pricing page. Square charges 3¢ per text on its Plus plan once you pass 500. Vagaro charges $0.030 per extra credit, and one message segment is one credit.

Both of those are roughly two and a half times the underlying wire cost. That is not a scandal — somebody has to build the software the text goes through. But the arithmetic is worth doing: at 2,000 reminders a month, 3¢ each is $60, and the same messages sent at 1.25¢ would be $25. The markup is about $35 a month, or $420 a year. You should at least know you are paying it.

One more thing worth knowing before you shop: Rhode Island does not license pet groomers. The state's animal-care chapter, R.I. Gen. Laws Ch. 4-19, has sections for pet shops, breeders, trainers, kennels, dealers and auctions — and no groomer section at all. The "$25 RI groomer registration fee" that shows up in search results traces back to a 2020 House bill that was never enacted. If someone quotes you a compliance fee for grooming in RI, ask them for the statute.

The free fix you can do this morning#

Here it is, and it is worth more than any $75-a-month tool on this page: put a working online booking link on your Google Business Profile, and put your Google review link on the receipt.

The booking half first. When we measured every veterinarian Google returns for "veterinarian in Providence, RI" on July 20, 2026, the result was blunt: 18 of 18 had no way to book online. You had to call, during business hours. Their median mobile LCP — the time before anything useful appears on a phone — was 11.1 seconds, against Google's own 2.5-second threshold for "good." That is the competitive bar in this city right now, in the closest measured neighbour to your trade. It is on the floor.

Square Appointments' free plan gives you a public booking page in about twenty minutes, at $0 per month, with unlimited staff calendars. Paste that URL into the "Appointment links" field on your Google Business Profile. Now the person searching "dog groomer near me" at 9pm on a Sunday can book a Tuesday slot instead of leaving a voicemail you will return on Monday.

The review half takes ten minutes. Google Business Profile generates a short review link for you. Print it as a QR code on your receipt or your leash-pickup card, and ask — out loud, to the face of a person whose dog just came out looking wonderful. That is the moment. A groomer who asks in person at pickup will out-collect an automated $75-a-month email sequence, because the automated sequence arrives four hours later, when the dog is asleep and the feeling has passed.

Total cost of both: $0. Total time: about half a morning.

What we could not verify, stated plainly#

  • PetExec's subscription tiers. No dollar figure exists in text on petexec.net, and its purchase page went to a 404 partway through the day we checked. The third-party "$105/month" figure circulating for PetExec is not from PetExec.
  • Booker's and Mindbody's per-tier prices. One anchor number each, then "Let's talk."
  • Birdeye's and Podium's prices. None are published anywhere, by design. The $299/$349/$449 Birdeye figures circulating online come only from competitor and affiliate blogs.
  • SMS add-on prices for Gingr, and two-way texting for DaySmart Pet. Described, never priced.
  • Any average Google Ads cost-per-click for pet grooming. Google publishes none. Its own cost page serves ranges only through an interactive estimator, and its help centre defines the metric without attaching a benchmark. Every "the average CPC is $X" claim you have read is third-party data. Pet grooming is an eligible Local Services Ads category in the US, and LSAs bill per valid lead, not per click — but the lead price varies by job, location and bid, and Google does not publish a number.
  • A Cloudflare Registrar .com price. Cloudflare states it charges registry cost with no markup but publishes no figure anywhere. Verisign's wholesale .com fee is $10.26 and rises to $10.97 on November 1, 2026, per Verisign's own quarterly filing; ICANN adds $0.20 per transaction. Adding those two together is our arithmetic, not a Cloudflare price.
  • The City of Providence business licence fee schedule. Not published online in readable form.

What a Providence groomer should do Monday#

  1. Do not buy anything for thirty days. Nothing on this list gets more expensive if you wait a month.
  2. Turn on the free booking link and the review link today. $0, half a morning, and it puts you ahead of 18 out of 18 measured Providence vets on the single thing customers actually want.
  3. Then, and only then, price the booking software. If Square's free plan is genuinely not enough — you need vaccination records, breed-specific pricing, or a second van — start with Pawfinity at $55/mo with unlimited staff logins or MoeGo Basic at $79/mo with 300 texts included. Both print their prices, which tells you something about how they intend to treat you later.
  4. Skip the reputation platform for now. $900 a year to automate an ask you can make better in person at pickup.
  5. Check your renewal price, not your signup price. Porkbun charges the same at renewal and says so in writing. GoDaddy's one-cent .com requires a three-year purchase and renews at $22.99. GoDaddy's own FAQ answers "will the renewal rate be the same?" with "Probably not." That gap is the whole game, and it is the same gap in every category on this page.

If you want a second pair of eyes on your own numbers before you sign anything, send me the quote. I will tell you which lines are earning their keep and which ones are just renewing quietly, and I will not send you a pricing configurator that wants your mobile number first.
