Veterans Transition House: Before and After Our July 24 Meeting

What we found when we audited the online presence of Veterans Transition House in New Bedford, what we handed over in person on July 24, 2026, and the 90-day plan that moves a C+ toward a B+ at almost no cost.

Veterans Transition House (VTH) in New Bedford has helped homeless veterans since 1990. In July 2026 we prepared a complimentary social media audit for them, and on Friday, July 24, we sat down with their team at the Purchase Street office to walk through it.

This is the before and after from that meeting: where their online presence stood, and what we recommended they do next.

Before: what we found#

The overall grade was a C+: a solid foundation with uneven execution. Facebook and the website were doing real work. The other channels were dormant, under-used, or missing.

What was working#

  • A consistent, on-brand Facebook page with real event photos and staff who answer comments.
  • A well-kept website with a current news section and a clear Donate button on every page.
  • Strong local press, including coverage of a visit from Governor Healey.

What needed attention#

  1. A dormant X account with a blank profile photo, still discoverable under the VTH name.
  2. The website linked to that dead account and did not link the active Instagram at all.
  3. No hashtags or location tags anywhere, which caps how many new people can find the content.
  4. Instagram treated as a Facebook copy. The same Poker Run recap earned 14 reactions on Facebook and 6 on Instagram.
  5. An unconfirmed Google Business Profile, the most valuable free local-search asset a nonprofit has.

After: the plan we handed over#

We delivered the audit in person and digitally, with a 90-day plan sequenced so that the free fixes that protect credibility come first.

Why this matters for any local organization#

Most of what held VTH back is common to small businesses and nonprofits across the South Coast: a forgotten account that still shows up in search, a website pointing to the wrong place, and good content that only existing followers ever see. None of it needs a big budget. It needs someone to look at the whole picture once and write down the order to fix things in.
