ClipDesk Privacy Policy

Effective date: May 19, 2026

ClipDesk is a local-first Chrome extension for capturing, reviewing, saving, searching, and exporting clean clips from webpages and PDFs.

This Privacy Policy explains what ClipDesk accesses, what it stores locally, and what it does not collect or share.

1. What ClipDesk does

ClipDesk helps users:

  • Capture selected text, webpage content, or webpage metadata.
  • Import text from supported text-based PDFs.
  • Save PDF metadata when full text import is unavailable.
  • Add notes and tags to saved clips.
  • Search saved clips locally.
  • Copy or download saved clips as Markdown.
  • ClipDesk is designed as a local-first productivity tool. It does not require a ClipDesk account or a ClipDesk server.

2. Information ClipDesk accesses

ClipDesk may access the following information when you intentionally use the extension:

Website content

When you trigger a capture, ClipDesk may access page text, selected text, page metadata, title, URL, domain, and related content needed to prepare a clip.

PDF content

When you click Import PDF into ClipDesk, ClipDesk may request temporary access to the PDF’s website origin so it can fetch the PDF file, process it locally, and extract text when supported.

If the PDF is scanned, image-based, blocked by the server, or otherwise unsupported, ClipDesk may save metadata only.

Webpage metadata

ClipDesk may store the source URL, domain, page title, capture time, and capture mode for saved clips.

This information is used only so you can identify, search, reopen, and export your saved clips.

3. What ClipDesk stores locally

ClipDesk stores data locally in your browser environment, including:

  • Saved clip title
  • Source URL
  • Domain
  • Capture mode
  • Captured text or sanitized webpage content
  • PDF import metadata
  • Notes
  • Tags
  • App settings
  • Temporary capture state
  • Local diagnostic events used to help troubleshoot extension behavior
  • ClipDesk uses browser-managed extension storage and IndexedDB for this local storage.

4. What ClipDesk does not collect

ClipDesk does not:

  • Sell user data.
  • Share user data with advertisers.
  • Use ad tracking.
  • Include remote analytics.
  • Send captured clips, notes, tags, or PDF contents to a ClipDesk server.
  • Require a ClipDesk account.
  • Use your data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.

5. Local-first processing

ClipDesk processes captured webpage and PDF content locally in the browser whenever possible.

PDF parsing is performed inside the extension using packaged local code. ClipDesk does not upload your PDF content to a remote server for parsing.

6. Chrome permissions

ClipDesk requests Chrome permissions only to provide its core functionality.

  • activeTab
  • Used when you click the ClipDesk toolbar button so ClipDesk can access the current tab for capture review.
  • scripting
  • Used to inject ClipDesk’s local capture script into the active tab after you start a capture.
  • storage
  • Used to store saved clips, notes, tags, settings, and temporary capture state locally.
  • sidePanel
  • Used to display ClipDesk’s main interface for reviewing captures, importing PDFs, searching saved clips, and exporting Markdown.
  • Optional site access
  • ClipDesk may request temporary access to a specific website origin when you click Import PDF into ClipDesk. This access is used only to fetch the PDF file for local processing.

7. Markdown export

ClipDesk can export saved clips as Markdown.

Markdown export may happen by:

  • Copying Markdown to your clipboard.
  • Downloading a local .md file.
  • These exports are generated locally from content already stored in ClipDesk.

8. Data sharing

ClipDesk does not sell, rent, or transfer user data to third parties except where required by law or necessary to comply with legal obligations.

ClipDesk does not use user data for purposes unrelated to its single purpose as a local clipping, review, and Markdown export tool.

9. Data retention and deletion

Saved clips remain in your browser’s local extension storage until you delete them or uninstall/reset the extension.

You can remove ClipDesk data by deleting saved clips inside the extension or by removing the extension from Chrome.

10. Children’s privacy

ClipDesk is not designed to knowingly collect information from children. Because ClipDesk is local-first and does not operate a user account system, ClipDesk does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

11. Changes to this policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated as ClipDesk changes. If the policy changes materially, the effective date will be updated.
